I started programming computers at school in Yorkshire, England, in 1979 with punched cards input into a mainframe computer which was processed remotely by the local university - something that blew my mind at the time.

Computer Programmer

Pretty quickly I moved onto programming Commodore Pet and BBC micro computers at school before taking a job in a local factory developing software for an accounting system in the early 1980's. In the next ten years, I moved onto IT management and took my BSc(Hons) in Computer Science at the Open University whilst working full time.

The start of SEO for Me

In the mid to late 90's I started developing websites and getting them indexed by the search engines of the time (Yahoo, AltaVista and Lycos). In those days, the techniques I used were far removed from how its done today. It was also much easier then!

Web Developer

I worked for an agency in London as a senior web developer using purely open-source technologies and experienced the first dot com boom and bust. Even though there was far too much money being thrown around, it was an interesting time as the pressure was on to deliver and many new and interesting technologies were around which were groundbreaking in their way.

After moving back to Hull for a while as a senior developer, I took a job across in Gibraltar as a Technical Project Manager for an online betting company. Here we worked on developing open source email, content management and CRM systems.

Focusing on SEO

Soon after this, I moved into a technical marketing management role working with a team of developers to promote our sites using Search Engine Optimisation. As most online publishers refused advertisements from betting companies, SEO was the main sales channel for us and it wasn't long before we were in the top position for many online poker related terms - right at the time when online poker was at its heights.

Learning from Super Affiliates

I eventually became a director at the company, in charge of our affiliate partnerships. This allowed me to network with our affiliate partners and understand what techniques they were using to drive traffic to our sites. A few years later I moved into a similar role, in charge of marketing for one of the UK's largest betting companies. Again we used SEO to push our product offerings up the Google rankings to great success.

SEO Consultant

My family and I moved back to the UK over 10 years ago and since then I've been actively involved running SEO and affiliate campaigns for both myself and customers. I have an excellent knowledge of both web technologies and online marketing techniques (even if I say so myself!). Furthermore, I'm fascinated by how search engines work, especially Google. I think the future direction of search is very interesting and closely follow the latest algorithm changes and updates.

Spreading the Word

In the little spare time that I have, I also teach SEO, marketing and technology at the local college, passing my knowledge and experience onto the younger generation.

A Passion for Search Engine Optimisation

I've worked on many diferent campaigns and SEO projects in recent years, some large, some small but all interesting in their own way. I have a passion for SEO and would like to use this specialist knowledge to help your business grow. If you'd like to have a chat then please get in touch.
