How to Create Higher Ranking Webpages

This article looks at the data behind the sites that rank #1 on Google and other search engines. What do they do that gets them to the number one position? How can you use their techniques to make your site rank higher than it currently does?

To help your web pages rank higher on the search engines once they're indexed, here are a few tips:

  1. Keep your URL short: Keep your URL to 50 characters or less.
  2. Add different media: Make sure you have video, graphics, animations and interactive content. This makes your site more sticky too and gi es you an edge over your competitiors.
  3. Use an enticing title: Your click through rate (CTR) correlates highly with the ranking of your site.
  4. Dumb it down: Make your content easier to read by everyone, even older children.
  5. Use a larger font: The average font size of pages ranking #1 is 15.8 pixels.
  6. Speed up your pages: Make sure you optimise your images, css and javascript.
  7. Use images: Most popular articles have around 9 images. (Make sure you optimise them for size!).
  8. Use high quality photos: Better quality images will get lots more shares on social networks.
  9. Include an Image Every 75-100 Words: These types of articles get the most shares.
  10. Use tall images: Taller images get pinned more on Pinterest than other images.
  11. Include links to other sites: If you link out to between 3-5 people in your post, it will increase your own shares.
  12. Write around 2,000 words: Apparently the average #1 page has 2,416 words so a lengthy article will rank higer than a short article.

Also, remember to keep developing offsite SEO to bring inbound links to your web pages. Doing this in conjunction with onsite SEO will help push your website up the organic search results.
