Preview your site in Google search results

Taking care over what your site looks like in Google Search Results is an important consideration. Potential customers will read the url, title and the short snippet that google provides them with before making a decision as to whether to click on your link or not. Therefore its important to get this right by using a selection of free online tools for previewing Google search results.

Note that Google only displays up to 512 pixels for the heading and 2 lines for the snippet, so its important to get these right.

Snippet organiser

The first tool that I'd recommend is the snippet optimiser. This allows you to insert the url, title and description and preview what the site looks like in Google SERPS and sponsored links. There's also an option to add a date and bold text to preview your listing.

Google Search Preview Tool

Another similar tool, but with more options, is the Google Search Preview Tool. This tools is similar to the Snippet Organiser but adds extra features such as the ability to add ratings, a picture and also to highlight the words that have been searched for. If you use this tool, don't forget to acknowledge the author in some way.

Structured Data Testing Tool

Different to the above two tools, Google's own structured data testing tool allows you to check your structured data and how the rich snippets will appear in the search results. Including structured data markup helps Google better index and understand the content.

As an SEO specialist, I have found all of the above services useful and, if you want to control how Google displays your search content, then I'm sure you will do too.
